The Department of Political Science is among the largest and most active departments on campus. With nine faculty members and about 80 majors, we are a vibrant community of scholars, teachers, and students united by an interest in political affairs, public policy, civic life, and the cultural and structural forms and uses of power. We value our sense of departmentally shared purpose while recognizing the critical importance of faculty prerogative to pursue research and teaching topics of special interest.

The Department features particular strengths in areas of development studies, with specialists in Latin America, South Asia, and China/East Asia, as well as a Europeanist working on issues relating to Muslim minorities in Europe. Additionally, there are college-wide opportunities to connect with specialists in other departments.

Allegheny College and the Department of Political Science provide numerous opportunities for curricular innovation. We seek a candidate who can develop introductory courses in the field as well as other offerings in complementary areas such as (provided here for illustrative purposes only):

Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to develop and offer courses that complement and support existing interdisciplinary programs, such as International Studies. The candidate will also teach introductory courses in the department, most likely Comparative Politics or World Politics. We would find it most helpful if applications for this position included a description of the candidate's interests in Middle Eastern politics (and the types of courses that could be offered as part of these interests), together with some discussion of complementary courses that also could be offered.

Questions may be directed to Sharon Wesoky, Chair of the Department, at sharon.wesoky@allegheny.edu or Shannan Mattiace at shannan.mattiace@allegheny.edu .
